2. What is the different between Certificate III and IV in Fitness?

The Certificate III in Fitness is the minimum qualification required for employment as a Fitness Instructor. Upon completion of this course you can work in a gym conducting fitness appraisals, writing exercise programs, and teaching exercises. There are no prerequisites required prior to undertaking this course.
The Certificate IV in Fitness is the qualification required to work as a Personal Trainer. It is a more in depth course that builds on the skills learned during the Certificate III. The focus of this course is on the skills required for one on one Personal Training. These skills include outdoor training, boxing drills, partner stretching, posture assessment, corrective exercise, and how to attract and keep clients!

3. Where and when do you deliver your courses?

All fitness courses may be studied full time or part time to suit your lifestyle. The classroom sessions are delivered at the Centre for Adult Education (CAE), 253 Flinders Lane, Melbourne, while the practical sessions are delivered at the Richmond Recreation Centre, Gleadell Street, Richmond.
We have exclusive use of the gym at Richmond Recreation Centre for practical classes. What this means for you is that unlike a number of other course providers we do not share gym equipment with other users. We can turn the radio down when going through key teaching points so you can always hear instructions from the presenters, and best of all there is no waiting for equipment!

Full Time Courses:
The full time courses run 4 days a week Tuesday – Friday 9am-4.30pm. We encourage Mondays throughout the course to be used as a study day.

Part Time Courses:
Part Time study is offered one night per week with practical sessions run on some Sundays between 9am-4:30pm at the Richmond Recreation Centre.

4. How are you different from other Fitness Course Providers?

We specialise in face to face learning with experienced and highly sought after presenters. In fact our presenters include some of the biggest names in the fitness industry!

All of our presenters are registered with either Fitness Australia or Kinect Australia (peak fitness industry bodies), and have obtained the nationally recognised Certificate IV in Training and Assessment teaching qualification. What this means to you is that the information taught in the courses is cutting edge and taught in an entertaining and inspiring way. This means no old fashioned boring lectures!

The structure of the fitness courses has been put together by Aaron Whear, who is recognised as “the fitness trainer’s trainer”. Aaron has employed literally hundreds of fitness instructors over the years in his various roles as a Gym Manager and Personal Training Coordinator within large gyms. This means the course is designed with a focus on an employment outcome.

The success of this approach is backed up by such a large number of graduates being able to find employment after doing the courses. By the way, we are really proud of our “ask anyone guarantee” which means you can speak to any of our graduates about their course experience. We are completely confident that they’ll say that “it was just the best!”

5. Do I have to be really fit to do a Fitness Course?

NO! Your fitness course is all about how to get fit and be healthy. If you already have a high level of physical fitness then that is great, however all you need to participate in the courses is a positive attitude and a desire to learn all the latest information on health and fitness and then apply it yourself and your future clients.

6. Is my age an issue?

The minimum age for students is 16, while there is certainly no maximum! Our groups usually have a variety of ages ranging from teenagers to adults in their 60s. This mixed age range is really beneficial as it gives great practice in dealing with clients with different ages, backgrounds, abilities, and exercise preferences.

A little known fact is that a number of Gyms and Personal Training Studios are crying out for more mature fitness instructors. The reason being that the over 60’s are the fastest growing segment of the fitness market and many people that fall into this age group relate better to instructors with much life experience.

7. Are your courses internationally recognised?

Yes! Once qualified you can register as a Fitness Professional in Australia, the United Kingdom, New Zealand and 20+ other countries worldwide.

8. The course sounds great, but I haven't studied or sat an exam for years and am worried about assessment?

Don't worry! To get you into the fitness industry you will need practical skills. This means that assessment is done by observing practical skills and by completing relevant assignments. To assist in preparing you for assessment we will also give you password protected access to our purpose built online Fitness Moodle. This unique tool will house a host of fitness videos, articles, games, and other resources to both support your learning experience and assist you with assessment tasks.
Warning – if you come across a fitness course provider who tells you that they do not do assessments in their course then RUN! To deliver a Certificate III or IV in Fitness there must be assessment to meet compulsory national training standards. Rest assured, we will make your assessment experience user friendly and that you will not be assessed until you are well prepared.

9. Will you help me get a career in fitness?

YES! We are very well connected within the Fitness Industry and regularly visit Personal Training Studios and Gyms in Melbourne looking for fitness career opportunities for you. This means you have an excellent chance of employment soon after you finish your course.

10. Can I do the course even if I don’t want employment in the fitness industry?

Absolutely! Your reasons for choosing a fitness course are a very individual thing, you may want to take your own training to the next level, you may have a sporting goal, and perhaps you want to assist your family on the path to better health. Whatever the reason you are welcome to study with us. However, I must warn you that many people who start doing the course purely for personal development end up loving it so much that it does turn into a change of career!
